In celebration of National Poetry Month, I am inviting several poet friends to join me in my daily endeavor of paying poetic attention to the world. This week I am sharing the practice with my dear friend Maya Stein, poet of The Creativity Caravan. Maya is one of the most generous writers/teachers/humans I know. Follow her on Instagram at @mayastein, and check out her #100day project for daily doses of wit and inspiration.
at the end of the day,
my hands hold
the work at hand, and
my simple prayer is this:
may what i make
somehow make
it better for you.

Do one thing today that
makes you feel whole.
Stitch the seams of your worry
to the back room, where the old paintbrushes are,
on the verge of disposal or their last
great canvas. Remember there is
always one of two highways to travel –
the one of making
or throwing away, the one of acceptance
or regret. You can open your hand
to a flicker of invitation, or turn your eyes from the window and lock the door.
Don’t say you never have a choice.
You always have a choice.
