today, may we find
good and proper work
for our hands
may we let them be useful,
hold the moment’s vital tool:
phone, pen, needle and thread
hammer, camera, knife
for the bread, or chopping
onions for the evening soup.
when we pray, palms together,
or listen in the dark,
palms pressed to our hearts,
when we push back the curtain
and let in the light,
or unfold our fingers
and reach for another hand,
let us feel the aliveness
moving the bones,
making shapes in the air,
like flags that keep waving,
waving.
